Welcome to Substack — my new home. You will find my writing here: https://sridharpaitonse.substack.com/

What is Substack?
For the uninitiated Substack, is a digital platform that allows writers to publish newsletters directly to their audience. It combines elements of blogging, article writing, storytelling, and sending email newsletters.

The platform provides writers with tools to monetize their content through subscriptions and providing links to services or products. Substack is flexible as writers can offer both free and paid content. When writers monetize their content, Substack takes 10% of the subscription income, so 90% goes to writers.

For a full and detailed review of why Substack makes sense for writers, especially writers on platforms like Medium, I highly recommend the Substack Mastery digital guide by Dr Mehmet Yildiz (Newsletter) at this link. You can read this several times as I did — it helps to orient yourself for success at Substack.

For your information, Dr Mehmet Yildiz (Newsletter) has been a guide, and teacher for my writing career at Medium. He has also moved from Medium and spends 75% of his time on Substack.

What is my new newsletter at Substack all about?

My newsletter Desi Slice is a weekly piece that goes out to anyone interested, including the Indian diaspora with an eye on investment, and participates in any form in the burgeoning Indian economy that is heading to a $5T market by 2027–28 (currently about $3.9T). At that point, it will then be the 3rd largest economy in the world by GDP (compared to the 5th position it is now in -behind Japan and Germany).

When an economy grows into that scale, it brings with it a different set of challenges and needs a different set of resources at the helm. The economy then requires leadership thinking from global readers, writers, business heads, senior executives from global corporations, policy builders, and reformers with a global view of everything to become available to contribute and also reap from the new fortunes that will be created.

Hence I have called it ‘Desi Slice — Seize opportunities in India’s Race to $5T economy’, (desi means native in Indian language Hindi). I welcome you my readers and followers to come along and be a part of this journey. You probably already know that India is the world’s largest democracy and has about 80 million English-speaking population.

This newsletter will focus on specific hi-growth emerging sectors — such as 6G wireless, EV, space aviation, and energy. But will give the readers a peek into a growing economy — opportunities and challenges.

Notes on Substack:

Substack is ridiculously easy and designed with the simplicity of a 10-year-old kid. It will take you 5 minutes to get started for free and dive into your writing world. I cannot tell you how simple it is.

In 7 years, it has grown like crazy. Here I quote from Dr Mehmet Yildiz (Newsletter)

Substack started in 2017, but it grew so fast that it now hosts millions of newsletters across various genres. According to this resource, Substack has over 20 million monthly active subscribers and has reached 2 million paid subscriptions.

With more than 17,000 writers earning income through the platform, the top 10 authors collectively make $25 million annually.

Insane, right?

Notes is a section on Substack — that is like a quick easy place to share your thoughts on anything. And it can become the trigger for a debate or a place to build the seeds of a community — should you be here for the long haul. But for now, I will let you discover and explore its goodness by yourself.

What do I intend to do?

I will write at least one newsletter every week -sometimes two, if there is enough meat and time till Dec 31 2024. Then I will check out with a reader response poll (easy-to-do polls on Substack) what they think. If it makes good reader sense to continue, tweak or change topics, or depth and width of stories, will do so.

After that, if I think my time is reasonably spent and value is being delivered, I will continue. But the joy of writing unhindered on Substack makes me think I may find it hard to not write every week :)>

I will also write Notes on Substack and share some of those on Medium as well. Some of the best inspirations I follow on Medium are also on Substack and some have quit Medium for good.

Meanwhile, thank you for being a wonderful audience and reader community. I invite you to join Substack if you are not already there. Do connect and let's read each other's stories and more.

What is a life that doesn't express itself in words? Do not lose another day! Do it today!
